In January - Debbie presented a challenge from the Brainerd Jaycees to have a Jaycee Relay team in the Brainerd Run for the Lakes on April 30. 2011.
Debbie asked me if I wanted to be on the relay team with her. I said yes because I am pretty sure I heard her ask if I would be interested in being part of a relay team for the Run for the Lakes and that we'd be running a 10k. Doing the math in my head quickly, I said sure, that's about 2 miles each.
WRONG!!!
About a month later, I learned we were ALL running a 10k!
Agh.....
I'm a weightlifter, not a runner!
Time to step up my game!
I did!
On Easter weekend, I ran my longest run or 6 miles in 1 hour 20 minutes. Which gave me 10 minutes to run my last half mile.
The weekend came.
It was about 40 degrees and raining all morning long.
I had hurt my back earlier in the week, so I took on the last leg of the race.
It was about 12:20pm and I could see Debbie at the top of the hill heading our way. So I got out of the van and ready to take on the last leg. About 5 minutes later, Debbie had reached the interchange location, we put the timer on my leg and off I was.
Oh - did I mention that based on where the interchange location was, my leg of the race was now 7.15 miles and I had 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the race before they called it.
AGH!!!!
Well - I did it. Running an average of a 12.85 mile, I made it to the finish line at 5 hours and 57 minutes and unknown seconds for a team time!
Our mission was that we were not In it to Win It, but we were In it to Finish!
Me putting the timer on my leg!
Off I go!
At my mile 3 or mile 22 for the marathon!
The last 100 feet - Lisa, Debbie, me and Anneke!
I now have the bug! If you don't hear from me, it's cause I am probably out some where training for the full marathon I will be running two years from now at the same race.
